California Grizzly Reintroduction
SB 1305 is now in Senate Appropriations and could be voted on next Thursday.
This is the moment to act.
SB 1305 directs the California Department of Fish and Wildlife to create a roadmap for the potential reintroduction of grizzly bears and establishes a state policy framework aimed at “restoring” grizzlies to California.
Even if it doesn’t move bears tomorrow, it moves the state toward reintroduction — with real costs and predictable conflict.
PS: This bill was authored by an urban-coastal district, but the consequences land first on rural communities, working lands, and recreation corridors. Wildlife policy shouldn’t export risk to someone else’s backyard.
