ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! Alberta wildlife conservation must have respectful regard

Wildlife is important to Albertans, contributing significantly to Alberta’s economy through tourism, photography, viewing, and sustainable uses. Hunters contribute over $800 million annually to the GDP, create around 3000 FTE jobs, and generate over $60 million in provincial tax revenue. Resident hunter licensing dollars are used to fund wildlife conservation projects that benefit all Albertans. Professional outfitters employ 1500 people and invest millions each year in biodiversity conservation and community programs. The foundation of a wildlife economy is wildlife conservation, requiring everyone’s participation.
Recently, MLA Sarah Elmeligi from the Banff-Kananaskis riding was reprimanded for her anti-hunting extremist behavior in the Legislature. She has been publicly attacking Alberta hunters, spreading misinformation, and not representing her constituents fairly. Her actions against the hunting community and Minister of Forests & Parks are seen as unrelated to wildlife conservation.
We urge you to write to her colleagues in the Legislative Assembly and demand that she stop toxic public discourse on hunting and wildlife management, and distance herself from anti-hunting publicity stunts.
We advocate for respectful regard, treating others with dignity, valuing their opinions, and acknowledging their rights and feelings.

“In today’s political climate, we have seen how disregarding the rule of law in favor of partisanship can lead to serious consequences.” “Science is based on accepting and indeed encouraging views other than our own and engaging in respectful discourse. An evolved society should do the same.”
