Is this the first step to banning beaver trapping?

SENATE BILL 5846

Many anti-hunting organizations are stating this is the first step to banning "recreational" trapping.

We were just made aware of this and will have more information when it's available.

At this time all we can suggest is commenting in support of legal, regulated trapping.  MODERN TRAPPING IS A HIGHLY REGULATED ACTIVITY IN WHICH A SMALL (YET VERY IMPORTANT) NUMBER OF PEOPLE PARTICIPATE. SKILLED TRAPPERS PROVIDE THEIR STATE OR PROVINCE WITH IRREPLACEABLE ECOLOGICAL AND SOCIETAL DATA AND BENEFITS, SUCH AS MANAGING & MONITORING ABUNDANT FURBEARER POPULATIONS. THIS LONG-STANDING CULTURAL ACTIVITY REMAINS RELEVANT AND NECESSARY ON TODAY’S LANDSCAPE.

You can state your position or provide a written comment as long as the bill is still active.

To submit a comment, state your position without commenting, or register to testify, see below:

Here's what you can do:

Option 1: Register your position. Share your opinion – submit a comment: https://app.leg.wa.gov/pbc/bill/5846
